Over the years, the world of cricket has seen various players that have left cricket fans stunned with the extraordinary skills and talent. Some of the include Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, as well as Sanju Samson.

Sanju Samson has proven himself often in the domestic cricket, however, he hasn’t yet made it big to the international level. The Kerala wicket-keeper batsman was selected for the 3-match series against Bangladesh last year but Rishabh Pant was preferred over him.

Since MS Dhoni is taking a break from international cricket, many people have cited Rishabh Pant as his replacement. But some have argued that Samson would also be perfect for the role.

I like to think of me and Pant playing together: Sanju Samson

However, it seems that Samson himself isn’t much concerned about the competition. In a recent interview with the Times of India, Samson revealed that he never thinks of competing with a fellow cricketer. Samson was provided with the opportunity to play ahead of Rishabh Pant during the T20 series in New Zealand but he failed to make the most of the opportunity.

“I think it all depends on the team combination. I never thought about all these lines (competition with Rishabh Pant). As a cricketer when you’re competing or when you’re trying to get into a sport if you have an eye on other players – I don’t think that’s the way to play your cricket,” Samson was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

During the interview, Samson also admitted that he sees himself playing with Pant instead of competing for a spot. He revealed that the duo has some really good fun when the play together.

“Whenever people talk to me about my competition with Pant, I like to think about me and him playing together. Not just play, we also have a lot of fun together. I think it will be a really good thing – we are known to dominate bowlers and we have done it in the past as well. So, I always look forward to playing with Pant. I don’t consider myself competing with him,” Samson added.

Samson and Pant have played together for the Delhi Capital in the IPL, where the two shared a great partnership against Gujarat Lions in 2017. Samson scored 31-ball 61 while Pant managed to stay unbeaten 97 in 43 balls to help their teams chase down 209.
