It goes without saying that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most popular cricket leagues in the world. The IPL is also the most-attended cricket league in the world and ranks sixth among all sports leagues. Currently, the brand value of the IPL is $6.3 billion.
There are various reasons that have contributed to the popularity of the IPL. First, there are no strings attached and players can support their favourite players regardless of which nation they’re from. Also, unlike other tournaments held in cricket, the IPL T20 has a very short game period of just about 3 hours. Therefore, the matches are saved from being long, hectic, and of course, boring.
The IPL is not only about cricket, but it’s also about cricket betting, too. During the IPL, cricket betting sites offering the best betting odds are usually flooded with bettors who want to place bets on players or teams. Many people bet to have extra fun while enjoying the game, while others place wagers in a hope to make some extra cash. Whatever be the motive, betting provides IPL fans with ultimate fun and entertainment. For bettors who want to start their online betting journey, they can take help of the tips and articles that are offered on this site. This year, the IPL was scheduled to take place in the month of March, but the outbreak of coronavirus led to the postponement of the league. The ICC and BCCI were in constant talks as to whether to conduct the IPL or the T20 World Cup.
As the T20 World Cup has now been postponed, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to be performed in UAE later this year. All the 8 IPL teams are now busy in making changes and preparing strategies to play overseas. The last time the IPL was played outside of India was in UAE in 2014 due to elections in the country.
During the 2014 season of the IPL, each team played the first five of their 14 matches in UAE. The outing was not at all beneficial for Mumbai Indians, as they lost all of their 5 matches and Chennai dominated that leg. Four-time champions Mumbai Indians and three-time champions Chennai Super Kings are settled groups who have the potential to bounce back anytime in the tournament but the problem will be there for the teams with weak bowling line ups.
Recently, Former Indian Test opener and now a popular cricket commentator Aakash Chopra posted a video on his official YouTube channel where he spoke about Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The weak and thin bowling line of RCB has caused them a lot of trouble, but it seems that it can become a blessing in disguise as their spinners might become lethal in friendly conditions. Also, he mentioned that the two bowlers might come handy for RCB, who are yet to win their first-ever IPL title.
Chahal and Negi will play an important role in the UAE: Aakash Chopra
“You need to forget everything that happened in the past 12 years as if the IPL happens in the UAE this year there is no distinctive advantage to any team. When playing matches at neutral venues, there is no home support and no familiarity with the pitches. All the 8 teams will be starting at par with each other. Mumbai and Chennai are top-class teams, they will eventually catch up even if they get off to a slow start,” Chopra said in his YouTube video.
“RCB doesn’t have a strong bowling attack, in the last season, they managed to win just three matches at their home ground. They have limited bowling but it can come good in the UAE as there are big grounds. So, I really think RCB could be one of the big beneficiaries this year. Yuzvendra Chahal and Pawan Negi will have an important role in the UAE,” he added.
Chopra also praised Kings XI Punjab, the team who has announced a new captain and coach this year. KL Rahul – the new sensation of the Indian cricket – will lead the Punjab team, and the former Indian captain will see the management of the team who hasn’t won any IPL title yet.
He then went on to praise Delhi Capitals who have added a lot of fingers and wrist spinners this year. As the conditions will be spin-friendly in the UAE, this could turn out to be the year for Delhi Capitals.
“Kings XI Punjab would also benefit, Glenn Maxwell has a good record in the UAE, they are very nicely placed, their spin department is good, I think you need to be worried about Kings XI Punjab this season,” Chopra said.
