It goes without saying that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is one of the most followed teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having bagged the IPL title on 2 occasions, KKR is the third most successful team in IPL and they have never lost an IPL final.
Over the years, the Kolkata-based franchise has tended to build their team around a strong Indian core and filled the gap with a few superstar foreign players like Chris Lynn, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.
Keeping in mind the players who have represented the franchise over the last 12 seasons of the league, we, at cricketbettingtips.io, have tried to come up with an all-time best KKR XI. Chris Lynn started his IPL career with Deccan Chargers but didn’t have a great start. He was signed by KKR in 2014 and didn’t take much time to show his potential. In a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Lynn scored 41 off 31 balls and took a brilliant catch to dismiss AB de Villiers. His amazing performance in the game earned him the man of the match award.
Lynn showed his true potential in 2017, scoring almost 300 runs in just 7 innings and at an astonishing strike rate of 180.98. He has scored 1,274 runs for KKR in the IPL, doing so at an average of 34.43 and a strike rate of 141.39.
Gautam Gambhir joined the Knights in the 2011 season of the IPL and enjoyed a successful tenure from 2011 to 2017. At KKR, he was renowned for his consistency and never failed to score at least 300 runs in a season. Gambhir accounted for 590 runs as KKR went on to win their first IPL title.
With 3,345 runs to his name, the left-hander is the highest run-scorer for KKR in the history of IPL. These runs come at an average of 31.61 and a strike rate of 124.28.
Robin Uthappa was Gambhir’s most reliable partner during the latter’s 7 years career with KKR. Uthappa joined KKR in the 2014 season, where he scored 660 runs with an average of 44. His amazing performance earned him the glorious Orange Cap, and he only became the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to win it.
Uthappa is the second-highest run-scorer for KKR in the IPL. He has scored 2,439 runs for the franchise, at an average of 30.48 and a strike rate of 136.25.
Jacques Kallis was a part of KKR between 2011 and 2014 and played in all 64 of KKR’s matches in the 4 seasons. He batted at NO.3 on most occasions and contributed equally with the bat and ball. He scored 424 runs in the 2011 campaign and accounted for 16 wickets in the 2013 edition.
Kallis’ best performance for KKR in 2012, where he scored 409 runs and took 15 wickets. In his IPL career which lasted 98 matches, Kallis scored 2427 runs and picked up 65 wickets. This makes him one of the best all-rounders in IPL history.
Manish Pandey started off his career with Mumbai Indians and after a few years at RCB and Pune Warriors India, he joined KKR in 2014. Pandey scored 401 runs in his first year at KKR. He had another great session in 2017 as he scored a total of 396 runs at an average of 49.50.
Pandey has aggregated 1270 runs for the Kolkata-based franchise, doing so at an average of 31.75 and a strike rate of 125.12.
Yusuf Pathan joined KKR in 2011 and played eight seasons for the franchise. During all of those seasons, he has been an indispensable part of the playing XI. Pathan is best known for his big-hitting abilities and he can also be a back-up bowling option with his handy-off spinners.
Pathan is the third-highest run-scorer for KKR, only behind Gambhir and Uthappa. The part-time off-spinner has scored 1,893 runs for KKR, at an average of 31.55 and a strike rate of 138.27.
Andre Russell would play the big-hitting all-rounder’s role in this team sheet of all-time KKR XI. The West Indian has the ability to change the course of the game with both bat and bowl, and he is also a dynamic fielder as well.
Russell has aggregated 1,342 runs for KKR in the IPL, at an average of 35.31 and an astonishing strike rate of 188.74. He has also performed good with the ball and has 54 wickets to his credit. This makes him the third-highest wicket-taker for the Kolkata based team.
Although Sunil Narine is more than capable of batting, he would take the spin-bowling all-rounder’s role in this all-time XI. Narine has been a mainstay in KKR’s bowling side ever since he joined the franchise in 2012.
Narine had three most productive seasons from 2012-2014, where he accounted for 24, 22 and 21 wickets. He has accounted for 122 wickets at an average of 23.31 and an economy rate of 6.67. His batting-strike rate is 168.34, which is only next to Russell in the team.
Just like many other players in the team, Piyush Chawla joined KKR in 2014 and had a positive impact on their way to winning the second IPL title. His quickfire knock of 13 runs off five deliveries in the 2014 final helped KKR lift the trophy for the second time.
Chawla has been the most prolific batsman for the Kolkata-based franchise and has snared 66 wickets for the team, at an average of 27.80.
Kuldeep Yadav hasn’t been a long term member of KKR, but his performance for the team in such a short period of time clearly speaks about the talent he possesses.
Yadav has a decent overall record for KKR. He has accounted for 39 wickets for the Kolkata-based team, at an average of 29.33.
Umesh Yadav takes the final pace bowler’s spot in this all-time KKR XI. He joined KKR in 2014 and has gone on to become the fourth-highest wicket-taker for KKR.
He has accounted for 48 wickets for KKR at an average of 29.02 and an economy rate of 8.62.
